6. You know that the state isn’t one big oil refinery.
7. At least three people in your family still love Bruce Springsteen, and you know the town Jon Bon Jovi is from.
8. You know what a “jug handle” is.
9. You know that WaWa is a convenience store.
10. You know that the state isn’t all farmland.
11. You know that there are no “beaches” in New Jersey–there’s the shore–and you don’t go “to the shore,” you go “down the shore.” And when you are there, you’re not “at the shore”; you are “down the shore.”

On a typical day driving around or through NJ, I lose count of how many cars with Florida or North Carolina registrations. What’s the deal?

Are these people defrauding the state by registering their vehicle in FL or NC to avoid paying higher registration fees or higher insurance premiums? According to most if not all insurance companies, if you’re garaging your vehicle at a different location and they’re not informed, that may be fraud. No, going to FL once a year to get your car inspected doesn’t count as being permanently garaged.

If you live in NJ and spend most of your time in NJ, register your car in NJ.

Just the other day I was driving through a small industrial park. One of the companies has multiple buildings on opposite sides of a narrow two-lane road (where the speed limit is 25MPH), so there is a lot of pedestrian traffic as the workers move between buildings throughout the day.

There is a clearly marked crosswalk, complete with a big reflective sign standing between the lanes that says “State Law: Yield To Pedestrians in Crosswalk.” As I was driving, I stopped to let a small group of people cross. As they’re crossing, some bonehead behind me doesn’t like the fact that I stopped so he decided to pass me and had to slam on his brakes to avoid hitting the pedestrians.

If I’m stopped in front of a crosswalk, DO YOU THINK I’M DOING IT BECAUSE I’M BORED? “Gee, I wish could break up the monotony of driving - Hey! I know, I’ll just stop here in front of this crosswalk!” I STOPPED BECAUSE THERE WERE PEDESTRIANS CROSSING. Why would anyone in their right mind try to pass someone at a crosswalk?

Even if it wasn’t a state law, it’s courteous to yield to pedestrians, however the fact that it is a state law still doesn’t stop most people in NJ from not stopping for pedestrians.
